National Conference 2011                     Registration Form (PDF)

We 150 years ago, in 1861, after Gabriel Read’s discovery of gold in Otago, there was a golden opportunity for adventure and the acquisition of wealth. Many of our ancestors took up the challenge to come to Otago to make their fortunes.

They came from all over the world, and most, as they matured, settled and raised families, first in Otago, and later in other parts of New Zealand.

In June 2011, at the NZSG Conference in Dunedin, you will have a golden opportunity to find out about those early adventurers and your Otago forebears.

Of course there are morning teas and lunches too!
The workshops are quite varied, with something for everyone.

The venue, John McGlashan College, is a very pleasant environment, with a modern building which we will be using for most sessions.
It has several computer rooms and spaces suitable for booths to be set up, and places to sit and chat, as well as classrooms and a library, toilets etc.
There is plenty of parking. There is good wheelchair access.

We suggest that those who need accommodation in Dunedin should stay at Cargill’s Hotel, or one of the motels close to there in George St. (There are at least 6 motels within 2 blocks, see AA book or Jason’s guide)

We are planning on turning on a bus or minibuses from McGlashan to Cargill’s at the end of each.
We will also organize minibuses from the hotel/motel area in George St to the College each morning. If this is well patronized it will cost each person $2-$3 per trip.

We intend having various databases installed on the computers, and internet access, with some tutors to assist. This is where we need the help of members from other branches

We hope to have representatives from Ancestry.com present.
